STOP KISS by Diana Son at Above the Stag | Review

November 20, 2019 Last updated: November 20, 2019 2:53 pm By Elaine Chapman

Stop Kiss - PBG STUDIOS

At the heart of Stop Kiss is a traditionally formed love story where Sarah (Kara Taylor Alberts) and Callie (Suzanne Boreel) meet through friends when Callie agrees that Caesar the cat can lodge with her while Sarah settles into New York before she finds somewhere to live where a cat is welcome too. The friendship between the couple is tinted favourably from the beginning with potential as they are very comfortable with one another and chat easily right from the moment they meet. Diana Son … [Read more...]

Soul of Shaolin at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre

Soul of Shaolin

Wembley Troubadour Theatre opened in June 2019. The new spacious venue doesn't boast any frills but don't let that put you off visiting. The temporary staged seating is comfortable and nicely spaced out. The acoustics and stage lighting is extremely impressive. Soul of Shaolin performed to an almost full auditorium in this evening's show. The nature of the production appeals to an incredibly wide audience from families with small children to those in their twilight years. The plot follows … [Read more...]

Daniel Audritt: Better Man at Edinburgh Fringe | Review

Daniel Audritt: Better Man

Self-confessed people pleaser Daniel Audritt has bought his new show Better Man to the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe. Opening his performance with a video exploring in a light-hearted manner how the media portray men and our social expectations! His entire performance centres around being a "better man" and just how far he is personally willing to change himself for the right relationship to work. Although changing for anyone isn't an advisable way to start any relationship. How far has society … [Read more...]

Sherlock Holmes and The Invisible Thing at the Rudolf Steiner Theatre

Sherlock Holmes and the Invisible Thing was first performed in 2016 at the Tabard Theatre and is now running at the Rudolf Steiner Theatre, Marylebone just around the corner from 221b Baker Street with a revised and edited version of the original play. This is very much a play of two halves. The first half sets the story up well, with anticipation and shock as pictures dropped and lights shook. Stephen Chance in his role as Sherlock Holmes encapsulated my idea of how the deerstalker-wearing … [Read more...]

Review of Richard III at Blenheim Palace

July 19, 2019 Last updated: July 19, 2019 8:22 pm By Elaine Chapman

Richard III at Blenheim Palace

Blenheim Palace is playing host to the temporary pop-up Rose Theatre produced by Lunchbox Theatrical Productions. The production of Richard III is one of the four plays being performed this season. With a powerful performance, William Mannering, in the title role of Richard III, plays the king with an abundance of passion - emphasizing the King's limp and partial stoop. The narcissistic and manipulating demeanour of this character came through in every scene, equally through his body language … [Read more...]

A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Blenheim Palace

A Midsummer Night's Dream at Blenheim Palace

The partly open-air custom-built Rose Theatre adds more atmosphere and depth to this production of A Midsummers Night's Dream where a large part of the original play was set in woodlands with the fairies and King and Queen. The story begins with Demetrius (Mark Peachey) hopelessly in love with Hermia (Francesca Zoutewelle). However, Hermia and Lysander are in love against Hermia's father's wishes. Meanwhile, Helena, (Elexi Walker) is deeply in love with Demetrius. As we know only too well the … [Read more...]

Macbeth at Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre at Blenheim Palace

Macbeth at Blenheim Palace

The custom-built thirteen-sided Rose Theatre dominates the front landscape at Blenheim Palace. The internal design has been created to resemble the theatre which would have been used in Shakespeare's time. Using this model's idea means that nobody in the audience is more than fifteen feet away from the stage. Part of the experience designed by Lunchbox Theatre group is a village section around the front of the theatre combining, seating areas, food, drink stands and market-style carts with … [Read more...]
