Review of Gangsta Granny at the Garrick Theatre

Gangsta Granny. Gilly Tompkins (Granny) & Ashley Cousins (Ben) Gangsta Granny. Photo by Mark Douet

When my Grandpa told me we were going to see Gangsta Granny live on stage! - I was very, very excited. I have read the book loads of times and watched the TV programme which I really enjoyed. Now it was going to be live on stage in a real theatre and I was going to see it! But then he told me that I would have to write a review of the show – something I had never done before so here goes. When we got to the theatre, there was a red carpet outside and a lot of photographers … [Read more...]

Review of The Naked Truth at Leicester Square Theatre

March 8, 2017 Last updated: March 8, 2017 12:48 pm By Guest Reviewer

Christine Lynn Charlie Bailey

Once again London’s West End welcomed the Cockney charm of comedian and playwright, Johnny Tait and I believe his passion and commitment to theatre gets stronger and stronger as he launches his third production in Theatreland. Was London ready for The Naked Truth? Judging by the queue outside the Leicester Square Theatre, I would say, yes it was. Once again the set was minimal which told me that the audience was going to have to think and use their imagination, although I think Johnny … [Read more...]

Review of Much Ado About Nothing at Theatre Royal Haymarket

RSC Shakespeare

There is a certain joy behind the eyes of the entire cast of Much Ado About Nothing, or Love’s Labour’s Won, playing the Theatre Royal Haymarket, alongside Love’s Labour’s Lost. There are many reasons why it’s Shakespeare’s most performed play and the performers revel in the wordplay and the farce with absolute glee, making it one of the best nights out in the West End at this dreary time of year. Edward Bennett as the witty and clumsily charming Benedick is first to bring a huge smile as he … [Read more...]

LORD OF THRONES – the 10th annual London 50-Hour Improvathon

The 50 Hour London Improvathon 2017 - Photo Claire Bilyard

As I collect my tickets I ask are they really doing this, 50 hours of continuous improv comedy? The cashier delightedly reassures me that they are, and he's working the first few and last shifts to see both sides of the ridiculousness. A real Olympic endurance test of comedy sees the amalgamation of Game of Thrones and Lord of The Rings through 25 2-hour 'episodes', with 15-minute breaks for the cast and audience to get a drink. Notably, the programme makes a distinct differentiation … [Read more...]

5-star Factor 2025 at The Rhodes Arts Complex

Factor 2025

Having read the novel Factor 2025 which at times had me laughing out loud when I wasn’t feeling like I wanted to slap the central character. I was interested to see how the book would be adapted to the stage. Arriving at the theatre I was given my tickets in a white envelope with a list of the cast, it read like a line-up of acts for a Royal Variety show. Comedian and author Johnny Tait has very cleverly written a play with a deep disturbing underlining story of how far … [Read more...]

Review of Factor 2025 at Hertford Theatre

September 15, 2016 Last updated: January 8, 2017 2:06 am By Guest Reviewer

Factor 2025 is the future of reality TV according to the author Johnny Tait. A fabulous idea, hitting on a television programme close to our hearts. Like it or not Tait is right, X Factor, Britain’s got talent, has been the manufactured dross pumped into our living rooms, season by season for weeks on end. Syco definitely dominates our prime time Saturday night viewing and yes it’s about time somebody came along and said what the rest of us are thinking. Factor 2025 adapted from the novel … [Read more...]

Bit of Sunshine at Edinburgh Fringe Festival – Review

Bit of Sunshine

Nicole Zweiback pulls you in the moment she speaks as Kira, the studious teenager who gets off on throwing up after finishing a big meal. It is estimated that 750,000 people suffer from an eating disorder in the UK, and bulimia is top of the list in Bloody Deeds and Kilter's production, Bit of Sunshine. Currently showing at The Space on the Mile at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival, in a small and intimate stage, you can watch Kira on her nightmare journey into rehabilitation. But, … [Read more...]
