Michael Ball and Alfie Boe Together Again

October 25, 2017 Last updated: March 18, 2020 7:40 pm By Paul Wilson

Michael Ball & Alfie Boe: Back Together Encore

Sometimes, things just work. The right combination of people, the right places, the right ingredients or, in this case, the right voices. Two huge talents who can more than hold their own have come together again following on from the hugely successful 2016 Christmas number one album “Together” and tonight they were giving us a sneak preview of their upcoming release “Together Again” which hits stores on Friday. In the intimate setting of the Groucho Club in Soho, Ball and Boe chatted through … [Read more...]

Review of National Youth Theatre’s production of Jekyll and Hyde

Two different productions in two days by the same young cast of 16 on the same stage. This is a significant undertaking by the most experienced of actors so for a group of young performers to attempt it is very impressive - and they have succeeded in the task. This adaptation turns the story of Jekyll and Hyde on its head. Rather than following the story that is well known, this “reimagining” focuses on Mrs. Jekyll, one year after Dr. Jekyll’s death. The story still utilises the … [Read more...]

Review of National Youth Theatre’s production of Othello

October 11, 2017 Last updated: October 8, 2019 12:01 am By Paul Wilson

Sometimes, that is the case; sometimes the meaning is lost, the performance rambles, the costume attempts to be period but doesn’t hit the mark…there are a world of reasons to give it a miss. But then, every so often, there is a reworking and a … [Read more...]

Review of The 39 Steps – The Tower Theatre Company

October 5, 2017 Last updated: October 5, 2017 2:55 pm By Paul Wilson

Tower Theatre Company: The 39 Steps

This is the first time that I have been to this delightful fringe theatre above the Gatehouse in Highgate, and I must begin by saying what a treasure it is! For this production it was configured as a thrust stage, providing approximately 120 seats on three sides with a good acting space and clear sightlines. The nature of the production required the use of all available space but there was little that was not visible during the performance. Intimate, yet comfortable (providing better leg room … [Read more...]
