Prince Charming is a cute puppet, who wears a red hat, has little white balls for eyes and wears green Y Fronts. Poor Prince Charming has all the worries and anxieties of the world on his little shoulders. The pressures of being Prince Charming, fighting dragons, saving the castle is way too much for this little puppet. As a result, Prince Charming has not left the castle, bedroom or even his bed for over three months. Ewww, he has been in those pants for three months, my little boy tells … [Read more...]
Mimi and the Mountain Dragon at The Village Hall, Battersea
Michael Morpurgo’s Mimi and the Mountain Dragon is a great production. It is described as a family theatre show full of adventure, snow, dragons, lively songs and magical puppets and it is nothing less than that. As we walked into the auditorium we were taken aback by the wintery yet Christmassy setting. There were lots of white sheets, little houses and pretend snow. A beautiful set for the snowy mountains of Switzerland, in Battersea Power Station. As we settled down in our seats, the … [Read more...]
Sleeping Beauty at Theatre Royal Stratford Theatre
This year Theatre Royal Stratford presents Sleeping Beauty. As usual, Stratford East have added their own twist to the traditional story. It was recognisable, but this production was quirky and embraced diversity at all levels. Each cast member brought something special to the table, whether that be a great singing voice or something else. From the very beginning, there are shout-outs. So are we ready to shout as loud as we can? And then literally within a few minutes, the auditorium is split … [Read more...]
A Christmas Carol at Rayne Theatre | Chickenshed Theatre
As the Christmas season begins, what better way to start it off than to watch the new musical version of Charles Dickens’ classic tale, A Christmas Carol, at the Chickenshed. This is a great production, one that my little boy and I really enjoyed. As you’d expect the ghost from the past makes her appearance pretty early on. She was dressed in a beautiful white glitzy dress with lovely Christmassy sparkly make-up. She places her hand on Scrooge’s heart, and the takes him through … [Read more...]
32 Peak Street at Tristan Bates Theatre | Camden Fringe
As I sat in the small and cosy auditorium of probably around 30 people in the Tristan Bates Theatre to watch 32 Peak Street, I was intrigued by the very simple but dark stage set. There were a few splashes of colour. In fact, yellow flowers on top of the piano and a green file, is all that I remember, in terms of colour. The lighting was simple too but effectively used in setting and changing the mood, during the play. So there I was ready to watch 32 Peak Street. A story about a young … [Read more...]

Review of Kika’s Birthday at Little Angel Theatre
Danyah Miller loves performing and storytelling. This was absolutely obvious when I watched Kika’s Birthday at the Little Angel Theatre with my six-year-old boy. A story about Kika, a little French mouse, who is going to be 5 years old! Her family has planned a birthday surprise. The decorated theatre was suitable to grab the attention of the young children in the audience. Where should the children look, at the bunting that dangles from the ceiling and walls, or at the colourful balloons, … [Read more...]
