Back to the Future is now playing at the Adelphi Theatre.

Olly Dobson as Marty McFly & Roger Bart as Doc Brown in Back to the Future the Musical, credit Sean Ebsworth Barnes.

When Marty McFly is transported back to 1955 in a time machine built by the eccentric scientist Doc Brown, he accidentally changes the course of history. Now he’s in a race against time to fix the past and send himself… back to the future.

Aside from the DeLorean Tim Haley’s design is dazzling with slick and clever scene movements in front of backdrops projecting illuminated wall-scapes of microchips and semiconductors and Musical Director Jim Henson helps to keep up the cracking pace with a punchy 14-piece band. John Rando’s direction is a smart, sassy, thrills ’n’ spills state-of-the-art kaleidoscope, giving us a show that is fun for all generations.

And that’s the essence of the show: fun. Fun with a capital Flux Capacitor.

So if you want your gob to be well and truly smacked – go ride the DeLorean!

Waitress at the Adelphi Theatre | Review

Waitress at the Adelphi Theatre: Katharine McPhee as Jenna and David Hunter as Dr-Pomatter.

It’s subtler than I had expected, this Broadway blockbuster that now has a home in the West End. Waitress, based on a motion picture of the same name, tells the story of Jenna Hunterson (Katharine McPhee), who is in an unhealthy relationship with Earl (Peter Hannah). Her waitressing is done in a pie shop, which explains why pies are on sale in the theatre foyer - in three flavours, apple crumble, banoffee and chocolate salted caramel), and are, at least at the time of writing, popular with … [Read more...]

Katharine McPhee as Jenna in Waitress

The time has come, Waitress, the Broadway Musical has arrived in London. After attending a launch a few months back with composer Sara Bareilles, It was lovely to see her back in London to help get the show off the ground - especially as she has just finished another stint playing the lead character Jenna on the Broadway production of Waitress only days ago. At the Press launch I attend, the cast performed 3 numbers from the musical: 'Bad Idea' - Dr. Pomatter (David Hunter) and Jenna … [Read more...]
