Apollo Theatre London Tickets

The Apollo Theatre was opened one month after Queen Victoria had died in 1901 making it the first West End theatre of the Edwardian age. The auditorium was renovated substantially in 1932. It is suggested that the balcony is the steepest in London so be warned!

Charlotte Moore shines in The Audience at the Apollo Theatre

July 22, 2015 Last updated: May 12, 2018 6:43 pm By Ruth Gledhill

The Audience

The Audience starring Kristin Scott Thomas and previously Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II is due to close soon. I’ve seen both productions several times and was privileged to see a particularly special performance shortly after the General Election. The often unsung heroes of theatre are the understudies, and most West End shows have regular understudy runs. I caught Scott Thomas’s understudy in The Audience and also the understudy’s understudy. Sadly, neither are nominated but with voting … [Read more...]

Review of My Night with Reg at the Apollo Theatre

January 27, 2015 Last updated: December 18, 2022 7:18 pm By Emily Gami

My Night With Reg Apollo Theatre London

My Night with Reg is the story of five gay men living in the 1980s. A mixture of comedy and poignancy, it uses humour to deal with some of the difficult situations homosexual men would deal with at that time, especially within the context of the AIDS epidemic. The cast were fantastic, excellently portraying the different personalities such that the only real thing they had in common was their sexual orientation (and a liking for conservatories). Jonathan Broadbent in particular did an … [Read more...]

Review of Urinetown at the Apollo Theatre London West End

October 8, 2014 Last updated: May 12, 2018 6:44 pm By Terry Eastham

Urinetown

When I told friends I was going to see ‘Urinetown’, I received one of two reactions. Either, “Really? What a horrible name for a show” from those that hadn’t seen it, or “You’re going to love it!” from those that had. It turned out that both groups were right. ‘Urinetown’ is a real mixture of contradictory features. As our narrator ‘Officer Lockstock’ (a wonderful performance by Jonathan Slinger) tells ‘Little Sally’ (Karis Jack) at the start – “this isn’t a happy musical” and its true it … [Read more...]
