School of Rock opens with an announcement from composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. He said he is asked all the time whether the children really do play their instruments live. The Gillian Lynne Theatre London School of Rock Tickets
The Gillian Lynne Theatre, formerly known as the New London Theatre before it was renamed after the legendary West End choreographer, is currently home to the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical School of Rock.
Based on the hit Jack Black film, Andrew Lloyd Webber's Olivier Award-winning stage adaptation School Of Rock - The Musical is leaving audiences rocking night (with three children's bands live every night) after night at the Gillian Lynne Theatre.
This guitar-thrashing, drum-rolling, rip-roaring celebration of the power of rock, tells the story of Dewey Finn, a down-on-his-luck wannabe rock star struggling to make ends meet.
Posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school, Finn discovers his students' musical talents, and opts to enlist his fifth-graders in a quest to conquer The Battle Of The Bands.
Described by Black as "a Broadway masterpiece", and the recipient of three Olivier Award nominations including Mastercard Best New Musical (winning Outstanding Achievement in Music), School Of Rock - The Musical features songs from the acclaimed movie, with new music written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater.
With a book by Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey, Half a Sixpence) and direction from Laurence Connor (Les Misérables, Miss Saigon), this is a rollicking show guaranteed to have audiences young and old embracing the ear popping, riff scorching and all-conquering music of rebellion.

I can only presume the rehearsal period for School of Rock The Musical was nothing short of intense for its youngest stars, of whom there are many, thanks to regulations on the working hours of children in this country, disliked by the show’s composer and producer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, as it prevents star billing for the children’s band. I can see his line of … [Read more...]
