The Time Of Our Lies at Park Theatre | Review

August 2, 2019 Last updated: October 8, 2019 1:31 am By Loretta Monaco

Why are we dropping bombs on this peaceful village this morning? It's a question a young American bombardier named Howard Zinn should have asked his commanders before embarking on bombing raids during the Second World War. Instead, his own personal fervour to defeat fascism, coupled with the spurious belief that his aerial bombs were hitting military targets only, enabled him to obey orders and participate in the bombing campaigns of WW2. But if Howard spent his young adult life in obedience … [Read more...]

Why, The Actor’s Nightmare asks, do patrons of the theatre leave their homes to see a show? It’s a pertinent question to ask a London audience, or indeed an audience in any metropolitan area where there are so many things that people could do in their spare time. Whether the question is fully answered during the performance is up to one’s interpretation. Personally, I think there are as many answers as there are theatregoers, though inevitably there is going to be some commonality somewhere … [Read more...]

Beezer and O’Rourke live on the fringes of society in a dingy London flat, struggling to make ends meet. … [Read more...]

June 18, 2019 Last updated: October 8, 2019 11:37 am By John Groves

This powerful play, set in Brooklyn in 1960, attempts to tell the story of a family of Italian immigrants trying to assimilate and adapt to the change of culture and environment. The promise of the ‘American Dream’ has proved elusive, especially to the father of the family, Nic, passionately portrayed by Robert Cavanah. He has ended up with a dead-end job as a lowly paid unskilled labourer laying Tarmac on New York’s streets. Physically, and mentally, he contrives to look totally exhausted; the … [Read more...]

Beneath The Blue Rinse By Tom Glover at Park Theatre | Review

Tom Glover’s new play is not only VERY funny, it is also heart-warming and at times very dark! Beneath the Blue Rinse attempts to explode stereotypes associated with old age and questions how society views and treats the elderly. Unscrupulous salesman Simon Sudgebury, comically played by Kevin Tomlinson, has bullied 44 OAPs into purchasing his burglar alarms and now only needs one more to sign up in order for him to get a £20,000 bonus. Unfortunately, when he knocks on Flora Parkin’s door, … [Read more...]
