First-class drama has been presented by, amongst others, the Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre and the Peter Hall Company; regular visitors also include Glyndebourne on Tour and Northern Ballet.

The Rhoda McGaw Theatre caters for the town’s many community groups, societies, semi-professional and professional content. It has a varied programme of entertainment throughout the year including musical theatre, comedy, opera, dance, drama and youth performances.


There are nine wheelchair spaces in the back row of the Royal Circle and one wheelchair space in the Stalls. It is advisable to book wheelchair spaces in advance. There is level access to the Box Office, bars, toilets and back row of the Royal Circle. There is lift access to the stalls. The Upper Circle is only accessible via stairs.

The auditorium is equipped with Sennheiser MobileConnect WiFi sound amplification system. MobileConnect uses WiFi to deliver superior quality audio to a smart device such as an iPod or iPhone, either through headphones or via a necklace for hearing aid users. Devices can be booked via the box office in advance, alternatively, patrons can download the Sennheiser MobileConnect app and use their own device.

The New Victoria are members of the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme. We support anyone with hidden disabilities or who may require more support and assistance during their visit to the theatre. Sunflower Lanyards may be collected from our Box Office free of charge.

Induction Loop Necklace
Suitable for persons wearing a hearing aid. Whilst wearing the necklace, switch your hearing aid to the T setting and the sound is amplified.

Sound is amplified through headphones. Suitable for persons without a hearing aid.

Guide, hearing and other working dogs are welcome in all parts of the venue.

There are accessible toilets on all three levels of the venue.

By car
The venue is attached to the Peacocks Centre. Easily accessible from the M25 (Jct 10,11), M3 (Jct 3), and A3.

By train
