RENT, with Book, music & lyrics by Jonathan Larson: ‘an anthem to life, love and loss‘
Winner of four Tony Awards including ‘Best Musical’
Based on Puccini’s ‘La Boheme’, RENT tells the story of artists living in 90’s Alphabet City coping with the struggles of life, disease and poverty through friendship, love and their art.
Since opening in 1996 off-broadway, RENT has been iconic in bringing to light topics that were previously unexplored in musicals – HIV, Sexuality and the hardships that faced those living in New York’s Lower East Side. These topics bear as much reverence today as they did nearly twenty years ago.
Jonathan Larson’s (writer of Tick, tick…BOOM!) hard hitting rock score coupled with a re-imagined raw and emotional book make this one of the best loved musicals of recent times.
