Leading actors to perform Harold Pinter’s poetry as part of 50th anniversary celebrations of The Homecoming.
Performers include Ron Cook, Douglas Henshall, Celia Imrie, Gary Kemp, Gina McKee, Indira Varma, Lia Williams and Susan Wooldridge on 9th December 2015, after the performance of The Homecoming, Trafalgar Studios.
The recital will be free to that night’s audience for The Homecoming, directed by Jamie Lloyd.
The cast of actors taking part will include some of the UK’s most skilled interpreters of Harold Pinter’s work: Douglas Henshall, Celia Imrie, Gina McKee, Indira Varma, Lia Williams and Susan Wooldridge, and current cast members of The Homecoming, Ron Cook and Gary Kemp.
The event will be part of the Jamie Lloyd Company’s celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Pinter’s masterpiece The Homecoming, first performed in 1965, and now receiving an acclaimed revival, directed by Jamie Lloyd, at the Trafalgar Studios. It will form part of a series of programmed events, whose aim is to engage with audiences beyond the play itself and, in this case, to open up the world of Pinter’s further work to a new audience.
Widely regarded as Pinter’s finest play, the dangerous and tantalisingly ambiguous world of The Homecoming is a crackling hotbed of visceral tension.
When Teddy returns from America to introduce his wife Ruth to his family in London, they discover a claustrophobic and brutal household where his father Max, brothers Lenny and Joey and Uncle Sam live in a state of mutual loathing and festering resentment. Theirs is a motherless, compassionless and lawless home where Ruth immediately becomes the centre of attention. Pinter’s sinister masterpiece simmers with suspense and rings with savage humour as Ruth navigates her way between the roles of predator and prey in an incisive battle of wills.
Starring Keith Allen (Sam), Gemma Chan (Ruth), Ron Cook (Max), Gary Kemp (Teddy), John Macmillan (Joey) and John Simm (Lenny).
The Homecoming is designed by Soutra Gilmour, with lighting design by Richard Howell and sound by George Dennis.
As with The Jamie Lloyd Company’s previous productions, all tickets for Monday performances of The Homecoming are £15. Half of these have been made available through a special outreach scheme, targeted at schools and first-time theatregoers. The other half is released monthly to the public on the first day of each month, available online or at the Trafalgar Studios box office.
The Jamie Lloyd Company is a partnership between acclaimed director Jamie Lloyd and Ambassador Theatre Group. Previous productions include Richard III starring Martin Freeman and Gina McKee, East is East featuring Jane Horrocks and Ayub Khan Din (currently on a UK tour with Pauline McLynn), The Ruling Class and Macbeth, both starring James McAvoy, The Hothouse with John Simm and Simon Russell Beale, and The Pride with Hayley Atwell, Mathew Horne, Harry Hadden-Paton and Al Weaver.
