The phone rings. A woman speaks. Another missing cat. Johnny Shot is a two-bit P.I. in a two-bit town. Constantly hired to find missing cats Johnny is in a rut. That is until Samantha Tibbles, a rich heiress and winner of ‘most attractive married woman’ three years in a row, walks into his office. Cute as hell with an attitude to match, Samantha hires Johnny to find her husband, Felix Tibbles. But as Johnny investigates the disappearance of Felix he uncovers more of his own past. A past he tried to run away from but which is quickly tap dancing towards him.
Think Raymond Chandler! Think AirPlane! Think Gene Kelly’s Singing in the Rain!
‘ It was another boring case, another missing cat.
Another high strung spinster with another bee in her
bonnet yelling in my ear too early in the morning.
Where do all these cats keep going, I thought to
myself. Then I realised, I didn’t care I just needed
the money. I had my last swig of whisky to wash away
the night terrors and started walking the sprawling
streets of Scranton-upon-Sea. I went to my first port of
call, Worthington Cattery. It was an abandoned fish
shop, over-run by AWOL cats and one old woman called
Mavis. She was crazy as hell, with a temper to match.
Today she wasn’t giving anything away, apart from the
contents of last night’s bed pan. Looked like all my
usual leads had dried up. The case was going slower
than a slug walking away from the love of his life.…’
