Through his new company Blackboard Theatre, and in partnership with global NGO REDRESS, Colombian born Miguel H Torres Umba is bringing Pedro and The Captain back to the London Stage for the first time in 30 years at The Vaults Festival from 2nd to 6th March 2016, 8:15pm (Saturday Mat, 4:45PM).
Pedro is played by Joseph Wilkins (National Theatre, Propeller) and The Captain by David Acton (National Theatre, Propeller).
Within the intimate confines of an interrogation room, two human beings are pushed to their very limits. This psychological battlefield offers up a timely universal reflection on states of oppression and dehumanization wherever they are found – war zones, refugee camps, boardrooms or bedrooms.
The story of Pedro’s disappearance will extend beyond the stage, and Blackboard invite you to follow as its effects ripple through Pedro’s family, social media, TheVault’s many spaces, at demonstrations and on the streets around Waterloo in the lead up to the show.
Through the staging of a searing and unforgettable play Umba aims to bring a giant of Latin American literature back to the British public, to involve the British Latin American community and their artists more in the theatrical mainstream and prompt his audience to reengage with human rights causes that are affecting all modern societies.
