La Soiree are in London for their eighth season. Their breathtaking and often incredible circus cabaret show has been travelling around the world. They’ve been to Australia, Denmark and even headlined the circus field at Glastonbury, and now they’re back. This year they’ve pitched up at The Aldwych Theatre, bringing their dazzling show to the West End for a six-week run.
The drama starts the moment you arrive at the theatre. The audience has a thrum of anticipation more usually found at a rock concert, the circus music blares and Le Soiree staff are on hand to make jokes and usher you to your place. The front row seats have been removed to create a ringside and keep the circus feel. VIP guests are on the stage and used to great comic effect within the show. The whole vibe is overblown fun. We’re here to be entertained.
La Soiree brings together some of the best cabaret and circus acts in the world. There are puppeteers, gymnasts, acrobats, vaudeville, cabaret and clowns. It’s a mind-blowing cocktail of athleticism and performance. The featured La Soiree acts for this season are as diverse as Cabaret Decadanse, Mallakhamb India, Amy G, The Chilly Brothers, Michele Clark, Lea Hinz, Daredevil Chicken, LJ Marles, Leon and Klodi, Fancy Chance, Symone and the very funny La Serviette. It’s all curated to ensure the audience has the most extraordinary night of performance and we’re fully encouraged to roar and applaud as much as we want.
For people who’ve had the privilege of seeing La Soiree in more intimate venues, there may be something a little missing. It is just a tiny bit more exciting to see the show in a circus tent – but the acts bring the spirit and the fun of the Spiegeltent with them, and it’s still one of the best nights out you can have in London. There’s a kids friendly version too, showing at slightly earlier times, which would be worth seeking out. La Petit Soiree promises to have all the fun with a little less of the sauce.
La Soiree is an ever-changing line-up, so every night will be a little different, but expect to always be wowed by the energy and exuberance of the acts, and to want to go see them again and again.
