The final Wild Card programme of work is from dancer, choreographer and founder of DaJance Arts Collective, Laura Dajao who presents Take A Closer Look on Wednesday 27 November. Based on her condition, multiple sclerosis, the evening features work by a number of different artists and interactive staging, tempting audiences to take their own journey and challenge their views.
The evening includes a re-working of Marionette, by Dajao’s DaJance Arts Collective. A solo performed by Dajao, the piece explores multiple sclerosis, an ongoing battle of symptoms including spasms and stiffness, the piece looks to who is in control, the person or the disease. Also included in the programme is a piece performed by Dajao and singer Jazz Bailey
Take a Closer Look sees Sardines Dance Collective’s new work Me, me, me… and you? Based in East London, Sardines Dance Collective aim to strengthen the world of inclusive dance by giving dancers the freedom to move and think expressively alongside highly experienced dance artists. There will also be a performance of 12 Months On from CoDa Dance Company, which looks at how we handle the illness of a loved one and explores emotions brought on by someone else’s extreme adversity.
The programme also sees a performance directed Hakeem Onibudo, who will present a re-work of his duet with Dajao, Human; a dance theatre piece from 10KMega Productions featuring three hip hop dancers and five alternative musicians; and new work from Chi-Lin Nim featuring music from Oktawia Petronella and Chanelle Hall inspired by multiple sclerosis.
As part of Take a Closer Look, Dajao has worked with a design team to create an interactive art installation that audiences are invited to explore pre-show, during the interval and post-show.
Wild Card is supported by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and the Garrick Charitable Trust.
