Juliet Stevenson returns to the Young Vic in February 2015 to reprise her role of Winnie in Natalie Abrahami’s production of Happy Days which sold out its initial run in the Old Vic’s Main House. David Beames returns to play Willie in a limited five-week run of Samuel Beckett’s classic.
Juliet Stevenson is well known for her television, film and work, but is probably best known as a stage actress.
Her stage roles are many, with one of her earliest roles that of Spirit in RSC’s The Tempest, starring Alan Rickman, in 1978.
He theatre credits include (but not exclusively); Hippolyta/Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1981), Hedda, Hedda Gabler, National Theatre, and Olivier Theatre, London (1989), Paulina, Death and the Maiden, Theatre Upstairs, London, then Royal Court Theatre (1991). Olivier Award for Best Actress (1992), The Duchess of Malfi, Greenwich Theatre/ Wyndham’s Theatre, London (1995), Amanda in Private Lives with Anton Lesser, The National Theatre (1999), Winnie, Happy Days, Young Vic (2014).
Of the role of Winnie: Dame Peggy Ashcroft said: “Winnie is one of those parts, I believe, that actresses will want to play in the way that actors aim at Hamlet – a ‘summit’ part.”
