“Ben has been told he has committed high treason. He knows he didn’t do it – but they’ve got it on tape. Terence and Goldsmith are new at work. They’ve really got to impress. Then – they meet Ben.”
Our Shadows Walk is a piercing drama with black humour which captures a picture of Britain through a truly cracked lens.
Short-listed for the Verity Bargate Award, which recognizes distinct new voices of future theatre makers, this is a new play written by emerging young playwright Danny Pegg. Artistic Director Alex Israel also returns to the company to direct the first-ever showing of this newly written drama.
In Our Shadows Walk, we are confronted with the inner workings of a government bureau in a world in which terror has become policy. Where the smallest of mistakes can lead to the severest of consequences – whether you are the average citizen or a government agent.
It is about the potential future of terrorism and was inspired by the effect of Drummer Lee Rigby killing on the public and media. What might happen if people with power decided to use terror as a weapon?
Our Shadows Walk was successfully crowd funded. Crowd funding is getting more and more popular and larger amounts of money are being raised all the time. It’s a way for people to get involved in sustain the arts themselves, especially in this time of arts funding cuts. The producers started the company leaving University together and Unfinished Business’ success has allowed them to now be a part of the fringe theatre scene in London.
The two producers of the company. are Danny Pegg and Alex Israel. Danny has written several plays and was shortlisted for the Verity Bargate Award 2013 for Our Shadows Walk. Alex is the artistic director and works as a professional director elsewhere and has directed over 15 plays including productions of Sugar and Spice by Nigel Williams and One Minute by Simon Stephens.
Unfinished Business Theatre Company was set up in 2010 by Danny Pegg and Alex Israel. To date the company has produced five plays. www.ubtheatre.co.uk
