Considered to be one of the most renowned American playwrights, Neil LaBute has captivated audiences all around the world with his layered characters, sharp dialogue and subtle social commentaries. With a London premiere, acclaimed American theatre company Savio(u)r are presenting his play Autobahn, directed by Off-West End Award nominee Tim Sullivan.
This short-play cycle follows colourful, complicated people making their way across America’s highways and their stops, starts, and stalls along the way in seven one-act plays, utilising LaBute’s flair for the dark and sinister as exemplified by his classics The Shape of Things and Bash.
Director Tim Sullivan says: ‘I’ve always been a fan of LaBute’s writing – he’s consistently one of America’s most exciting playwrights. We’re thrilled to be bringing Autobahn to English audiences for the first time. These snapshots of witty, damaged, and complex characters from across the United States reveal the everyday contradictions and complications of modern life.’ At its New York premiere, Autobahn featured an all-star cast including Kevin Bacon, Susan Sarandon, Paul Rudd, Brian Dennehy, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Savio(u)r’s production of Our Town at the King’s Head Theatre was chosen as one of the Guardian’s Top 10 productions of 2013 and as a one-of-a-kind theatrical gem (Time Out), while their Christmas double-bill of Thornton Wilder plays, were called theatrically fascinating (The Independent). Savio(u)r Theatre Company have recently celebrated their 5th birthday and are committed to presenting work by American playwrights in the UK.
