This morning, telephone lines and online theatre ticket booking systems have been at overload, as Benedict Cumberbatch (and Shakespeare’s Hamlet) fans got their bank cards out in order to book tickets for next year’s run of Hamlet at the Barbican Theatre.
The 2015 run of Hamlet at the Barbican, which will star Benedict Cumberbatch, has, according to online press reports, become the most in-demand theatre production of all time.
The show doesn’t open until August 2015, but such is the popularity of Bendict Cumberbatch’s Hamlet, it is out-selling the next most popular show, the current run of A Streetcar Named Desire at the Young Vic.
Lyndsey Turner’s production of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, with Benedict Cumberbatch playing the title role, will begin performances at the Barbican Theatre on 5th August 2015, with opening night on 25th August at 7.00pm. The twelve week run will conclude on 31st October 2015. Set design is by Es Devlin. Further casting and details for this production will be announced at a later date. Hamlet will be produced by Sonia Friedman Productions.
While most tickets for next year’s Hamlet may have already been sold, there is still hope to get along to see the production, as The Barbican will have 100 £10 seats on offer for each performance of the run. The seats will be positioned throughout the auditorium, and will be available at each performance. More information on this will be released in 2015.
In addition to these public performances, The Barbican will schedule four midweek education matinees exclusively for schools and colleges. Tickets for these performances will go on sale in early 2015 via the Barbican box office. Booking details to be announced.
