Songbird tells the story of the legendary singer, Eva Cassidy, and traces a remarkable, poignant journey from Eva’s humble beginnings to her untimely death at the age of just 33.
The show, which has current tour dates planned from 3rd October to 17th November 2014, stars Sarah Jane Buckley, who performs Eva’s songs with incredible accuracy, capturing the raw emotion and power of this iconic artist.
Chatting with LondonTheatre1.com, Sarah Jane Said “I want you to feel like you have seen Eva Cassidy live and that with the fantastic band and evocative visuals you are transported for a night to remember.”
Sarah Jane is already one of the world’s leading Eva Cassidy performers and has spent years perfecting the ‘Eva’ sound and putting together this exciting concert. “I wanted to bring her truly beautiful arrangements to life and also give the audience a sense of this fascinating woman”, she says. “When I first heard Eva on Terry Wogan’s radio show, her voice stopped me in my tracks. Her vocal range and emotional effect was spellbinding and, like the rest of the country, I was hooked”.
If you’re a fan of Eva’s or just discovering her for the first time, this is a chance to hear over 25 of her unique interpretations of well-known songs including Songbird, Fields of Gold, Over The Rainbow and Cheek To Cheek. As a vocalist and guitarist, she interpreted melodies from a wide variety of musical categories – jazz, blues, soul, gospel, folk, country, and pop – infusing all of her songs with authentic emotion and a wonderful warmth, purity, and power that made them both moving and memorable.
With a fantastic onstage live band, this is more than a concert. It’s a real opportunity to experience the life and music of someone who has sold millions of records worldwide and who is one of the greatest voices of her generation.
Sarah Jane is thrilled to be co-producing and starring in Songbird – The Music of Eva Cassidy and bringing this exciting concert to theatres across the UK.
Sarah Jane is popular for playing the role of Kathy Barnes in Channel 4’s hit TV Soap Hollyoaks. She also recently starred in John Godbers September in the Rain alongside David Lonsdale (Heartbeat). Last year she starred alongside Toyah Wilcox in the hilarious hit comedy Hormonal Housewives.
