The Actor Works Company presents Dying For It by Moira Buffini (freely adapted from Nikolai Erdman’s The Suicide). Performances from Tuesday 21st October to Saturday 8th November 2014.
Semyon is unemployed and lives in the hallway of an urban slum in 1920s Soviet Russia. By his own admission, he is a maggot, not a man, and decides to end his miserable life. Word quickly spreads and his comrades come running to his side… each intent on persuading him to die for their cause.
Will he die for truth? For love? For God? For art?
Or will he die on his own terms?
This satirical, bitterly funny and tragic farce was written in 1929, but was banned by Stalin before its dress rehearsal. Adapted by Moira Buffini, writer of the 2014 Oliver Award winner, Handbagged.
