He Had Hairy Hands at New Diorama Theatre, Tuesday 30 September – Saturday 11 October 2014
Kill the Beast’s supernatural noir mystery thriller, He Had Hairy Hands, comes to New Diorama Theatre for a strictly limited run from Tuesday 30 September – Saturday 11 October, fresh from its raucously successful rampage through the 2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe where it was selected as a ‘top act’ by the BBC and nominated for the Brighton Fringe Award for Excellence.
When the demonic lupine beast unleashes havoc on the town of Hemlock-Under-Lye, renegade detective Eglantine Whitechapel is plucked from her cosy retirement and dropped back into a world she thought she had escaped forever…
He Has Hairy Hands is the second production from one of the UK’s most distinctive and idiosyncratic young theatre companies; the mutant theatrical spawn of Tim Burton, Hammer and The League of Gentlemen known as Kill the Beast.
The quintet’s debut, The Boy Who Kicked Pigs – based on the “grotesque masterpiece” of a novel by cult actor Tom Baker – met with critical and audience acclaim when it premiered in 2013. The follow-up offers the same stirring visuals, masterfully slick performers, sinisterly hilarious writing and uproarious original music, all while throwing in new drama, horror, excitement and one very important pigeon…
He Had Hairy Hands: What the press said…
“EVER thought “wouldn’t it be great to mash-up a 1970s cop drama with a gothic noir supernatural werewolf mystery and set it somewhere like Royston Vasey?” No? Well, thankfully the aptly named young company Kill the Beast have – and the result is a farcical romp that manages to make the familiar fresh through bizarre juxtapositions of film, TV and theatre archetypes that shouldn’t work but somehow do.” Sally Stott, The Scotsman
