Divas London at Tattershall Castle | Review

What to do at the weekend is one of those questions that often gets asked. That question has been answered. All you have to do is grab your friends, family and anyone who likes a good time, then head down to the Tattershall Castle on the Thames for Simon Gross’ summer show Divas London.

Simon knows how to put on a great show and has triumphed once more with Divas London, a first-rate cabaret show with some of London’s finest vocal talent singing songs from the ultimate musical divas – Whitney, Arethra, Madonna, Celine, Cher and so many more. The pre-show starts with Simon, in full spectacular drag, coming into the audience for a chat. They build a great rapport with everyone and get them into the party spirit. Once the show proper starts, our three divas – Hayley Maybury, Pritee Almeida, and Amber Atkinson – accompanied by their dancers, the handsome duo of Joshua Dance and Jared Stanton, perform pop and ballads from the top female artists of the 60’s through to the 90’s. With gorgeous costumes and fabulous choreography, the singers deliver a wide range of songs, both as solo and group artists. Highlights for me included ‘Think’, ‘Stop in the Name of Love’, ‘Kids in America’, ‘Believe Me’ and my two favourites ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ and ‘I Will Always Love You’.

In between Simon is back, playing with the audience and keeping them in the party spirit, because Divas London is a real party show. Audience participation is fully encouraged and you can sing and dance to your heart’s content to songs you know and love either because you were there the first time around (me) or you’ve been brought up on it thanks to your parents and their excellent taste in music.

I could go into more detail about the songs. The girls looked and sounded spectacular and the boys’ costumes and movements had quite an effect on some of the ladies (and the occasional man) in the audience, but I didn’t need to.  This is a party show that has to be experienced.

Overall, Divas London was a superb way to spend a Sunday afternoon.  I laughed, sang, occasionally threw caution to the wind and danced, and thoroughly enjoyed my visit aboard the Castle with Simon and his crew.
