Nick Wyschna welcomed us to the opening night of this year’s Guildford Fringe Festival and gave us an insight into all the wonderful events taking place during the festival. Guildford Fringe includes comedy, opera, poetry, theatre, cinema, art, spoken word and everything else in between. There really is something for everyone!
The festival kicked off with the Gag House Comedy Superstars compered by the brilliant Zoe Lyons and starring Ivo Graham, Matt Richardson and Andy Parsons. I wouldn’t want to ruin their acts by retelling their best jokes but suffice to say the evening’s entertainment included observations on the heatwave, Deliveroo, Brighton and Hove, Flies, motivational carpets, family holidays, Brexit and austerity.
The two young comedians Ivo and Matt were both very entertaining but I was glad I hadn’t decided to go along with my parents or my children! However Zoe and Andy really excelled, they were able to adapt their material to the area, the day and the audience they were performing to making it topical, relevant inclusive and riotously funny.
This was a great start to the festival, there are nearly 100 more events coming up and many of them are free. Get along to a few you’d be mad not to.
