Honk! The Musical

If you are planning to visit London to see a musical on stage at one of the West End theatres, or a musical in one of the many Off West End or Fringe venues, then maybe our London musical reviews section can be of help? Six: ‘something about the feistiness, the sassiness, the riotousness of it all’
There’s a good mix of musical styles amongst the ten musical numbers, though most of the melodies are firmly in the style of what I call ‘minicab music’ – the sort of chart music tunes I would only listen to if I were being driven home and the driver just so happened to have the radio on. But there’s something about the feistiness, the sassiness, the riotousness of it all. I liked the music so much I bought the cast recording on the way out. It only leaves me to wish Six a long and glorious reign.

Legally Blonde The Musical at New Wimbledon Theatre

September 27, 2012 Last updated: May 8, 2019 3:16 pm By Neil Cheesman

Legally Blonde New Wimbledon Theatre

We went along to see the touring production of Legally Blonde The Musical at the New Wimbledon Theatre this week and what a fabulous show it is. We went to see Legally Blonde several times at the Savoy Theatre and the touring production is comparable to the tremendously successful show that we have seen in the West End. The only difference between the touring production and at the Savoy Theatre appears to a slight modification to some of the scenery, but unless you were a regular at the Savoy … [Read more...]

Ghost The Musical Review Piccadilly Theatre London

March 31, 2012 Last updated: May 8, 2019 3:16 pm By Neil Cheesman

Ghost The Musical

I hadn't gone to see Ghost The Musical primarily because I'm a bit old-fashioned and prefer my musicals pop-free! However, off I went with my pre-conceptions and cynical demeanour to the Piccadilly Theatre. And while I have to admit I was wrong to assume a new musical based on a film with a pop music composer would be bad, I wasn't as pleasantly surprised as I thought I would be. The one thing that did not disappoint was that the book stayed as close to the plot of the film as possible. As a … [Read more...]

Matilda The Musical Review November 2011

November 5, 2011 Last updated: April 26, 2020 7:55 pm By MissJulie

When the RSC-staged musical adaption of Roald Dahl’s Matilda played in Stratford earlier this year, it was widely acclaimed by both audience and critic alike. News of its West End transfer to the Cambridge Theatre was enthusiastically received and the London audience eagerly anticipated its arrival. Well, now it’s here and it more than lives up to the hype. Roald Dahl’s book about the ill-treated child prodigy who discovers she has ‘super-powers’ and can move objects with her eyes is one that … [Read more...]

Ghost The Musical Piccadilly Theatre

July 20, 2011 Last updated: May 8, 2019 3:16 pm By Neil Cheesman

If I am asked to describe Ghost The Musical in as few words as possible I would quite simply say: “It is beautiful”. Will it be a success in London’s West End, I will say “You betcha!” I am confident that this musical will also hit Broadway and be a success there too. Okay, what are the ingredients to make this musical a success? The film Ghost (1990), written by Bruce Joel Rubin won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and is a classic romantic film with outstanding performances by … [Read more...]

Shrek The Musical Review Update

July 2, 2011 Last updated: May 8, 2019 3:16 pm By Neil Cheesman

Shrek The Musical

We went to see Shrek The Musical on Thursday of this week. To be honest, if it wasn’t for arranging to meet some of the cast afterwards we might have delayed our second visit to the show a little bit longer, having seen it during previews. That isn’t to say that we didn’t enjoy the show as both my partner and I sure did, and probably more than we had the first time. So, for those that haven’t seen Shrek, here is an update on my first review. Shrek has somewhat of a pantomime feel to it, … [Read more...]
