The Rocky Horror Show at New Victoria Theatre, Woking

The Rocky Horror Show at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking was brilliant! From the moment we walked in, it was clear this was no ordinary night at the theatre.

The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement. Many in the audience were dressed in fishnets, corsets, and all the Rocky Horror glad rags you’d expect. My friends and I decided to join in the fun with a bit of glitter and red lipstick—it’s one of those shows where the more you get into the spirit, the better! There were people of all ages in the crowd.

Stephen Webb as Dr. Frank-N-Furter was charismatic and flamboyant. He owned the stage and had everyone laughing with his one-liners. His performance of “Sweet Transvestite” had the audience joining in. Nathan Caton as the Narrator was also impressive. He kept us all laughing and fully engaged. It’s rare to see a show where the audience is encouraged to shout back, but it added a whole new level of energy to the evening.

The story of Brad and Janet – a straight-laced couple who find themselves stranded at the mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Their journey from innocence to, well, not-so-innocence is hilarious, especially with the catchy and slightly naughty songs like “Dammit Janet” and “Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me.” The whole cast was fantastic, but I have to say, the ensemble really shone during “The Time Warp.” By that point, nearly everyone in the audience was on their feet, doing the dance and shouting along.

The set design was cleverly done, capturing the creepy glamour of Frank-N-Furter’s mansion with just the right mix of camp and gothic style. The lighting and costumes were fabulous. You could tell a lot of thought had gone into every detail.

I would say that The Rocky Horror Show is definitely not for the faint-hearted – it’s filled with cheeky humour, innuendo, and a lot of ‘naughtiness’. But that’s what makes it so much fun. It’s a show that encourages you to let go of your inhibitions, shout along, and just enjoy the spectacle. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer, the experience is unforgettable.

If you’ve never seen The Rocky Horror Show, I’d highly recommend it. It’s running in Woking until Saturday 16th November, 2024. Grab some friends, dress up if you feel like it, and prepare to do the Time Warp – trust me, you won’t regret it!
