Viva Forever! Review Piccadilly Theatre London

Viva Forever!Viva Forever! is a bright, colourful and fun backdrop to an evening re-living the Spice Girls’ greatest hits.

The iconic Spice Girls are the product of one of the most successful marketing engines ever making £800million between 1996 and 1998. With a huge impact on culture, politics and their ‘Girl Power’ mission for the empowerment of women, they have always been more than just a pop group. Jennifer Saunders has linked these award winning songs together by creating characters and a story that share the Spice Girls’ ethos.

We follow ‘Viva’ (Hannah John-Kamen) on the roller coaster she finds herself on, striving to be the next big thing on a TV talent contest. Her friends and mother (Sally Ann Triplet) are behind her supporting her all the way, and her incredible journey teaches Viva what’s important to her and who she wants to be.

Viva has been brought up under the influence of a fiercely independent and strong feminist mother. Living on a dilapidated boat with no TV, Viva is determined to live the life she wants, with her own ideas and values whatever the consequences.

The behind the scenes look at an X Factor style TV talent competition ‘Star Maker’ is very enjoyable. A great touch is one of the judges of the competition, Karen, beautifully played by Tamara Wall, a cross between Kerry Katona and Katie Price, has her own reality TV crew following her around at all times. Another great performance is from Hatty Preston, who has created a very funny character in Minty, assistant to the judges.

Romance, sunshine, and some great ensemble numbers choreographed by Peter McKintosh make the Spice Girls music really sparkle.

Viva Forever!  is a very  entertaining evening and and the biggest treat for any Spice Girls fans.
