If we could give 10 stars, we would! Every single thing about this show was utterly sensational. Faultless to the end, beautiful, moving, funny – the true dictionary definition of what a musical is. Every single vocal, every piece of choreography and acting was done with immense conviction and talent.
The story of a girl called Jenna, a waitress and talented baker who takes on the journey of her everyday life; creating new pies every day, the characters that visit the pie shop take us on her journey of a surprise pregnancy and a suffocating, abusive marriage and an unexpected affair.
Carrie Hope Fletcher (Jenna) is faultless to the end. Her vocals and acting are sublime, utterly beautiful and real. Carrie’s performance of the iconic song “She Used To Be Mine” was mesmerising and moving beyond words. Her warmth and sense of character keep the audience throughout, and her moment of strength when she stands up to Earl, the audience gives a rapturous applause.
Les Dennis (Joe) is brilliantly cantankerous but warm, and you can’t help but like Joe.
Sandra Marvin (Becky) is ever the powerhouse vocally and as an actress alike. She brings spice, naughtiness and her comedy is exceptional. Her voice, as always, has beautiful warmth and range. She’s not afraid to stand up to Cal and her boss and carries her own naughty secret!
Evelyn Hoskins (Dawn) is brilliantly funny; her physical comedy and energy shine, and she is the perfect piece of the trio alongside Carrie & Sandra. Her scatty, quirky character is infectious, and you can’t help but love her.
Dan Partridge (Dr Pomatter) is the unexpected heartthrob to Jenna. Dr Pomatter throws a spanner in the works when Jenna learns that her previous Dr, whom she knows and trusts, has retired… Dan’s performance is wonderfully funny, silly and has great physical comedy.
Mark Anderson (Ogie) is wonderfully awkward, geeky and Dawn’s love interest and future husband. A perfect match was portrayed between him and Evelyn.
Mark Willshire (Earl) portrays the hideous husband of Jenna brilliantly. Earl is suffocating, physical and controlling and you want nothing more than Jenna to run for the hills. Mark’s acting is sensational.
Dan O’Brien (Cal) plays the role of Cal, the boss at the pie shop, who tries to run a tight ship, but that doesn’t get in the way of the girls’ friendships and conversations, and a little bit more with Becky! Dan brings just the right level to this character and likeability.
The ensemble are utterly seamless in their delivery of the choreography. Many props and staging are used throughout the show, and their movement is poetic and vocals alike.
This show is utterly sensational with a cast and crew that bring highs, lows and everything in between. A must-see show!
