Havisham Live at Studio at New Wimbledon Theatre is a new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novel Great Expectations, by Half Cut Theatre. The play is set in the present day, and follows the story of Pip, a young man from a poor background who is suddenly raised to a life of luxury by a mysterious benefactor. However, Pip’s new life comes at a price, as he finds himself caught up in a web of deceit and betrayal.
In this adaptation, Miss Havisham is a wealthy social media influencer who has been jilted at the altar. She lives in a derelict mansion with her adopted daughter Estella, and her life is dominated by her obsessive desire for revenge against all men.
The play is described as a “dark and atmospheric” reimagining of Dickens’ novel, and it promises to be a unique and exciting theatrical experience. It is scheduled to run at the Studio at New Wimbledon Theatre from 29 February to 2 March 2024.
Half Cut Theatre is known for their innovative and playful productions, and they have a strong track record of bringing classic stories to life in new and exciting ways. Their production of The Canterbury Tales, which was staged at the Studio at New Wimbledon Theatre in 2023, was met with critical acclaim.
