Surbiton High School Presents: Oliver! at New Wimbledon Theatre from Thursday 16th November to Saturday 18th November 2023.
Surbiton High School is delighted to be presenting this classic musical based on the Dickens novel ‘Oliver Twist’, which actually premiered at the Wimbledon Theatre in 1960, before moving to the West End and Broadway for hugely successful runs. You may well have seen the film adaptation which was awarded six Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
‘Oliver!’ tells the story of a young orphan who escapes from a parochial workhouse and is then picked up by a boy named the Artful Dodger, who introduces him to a gang of child pickpockets led by the conniving but charismatic Fagin. Oliver must then navigate Victorian London’s underworld of theft and violence, searching for a home, for a family, and – most importantly – for love.
Our production will feature a cast of over 130 pupils, between the ages of 8 and 18. The show is packed full of huge dance numbers, which will be brought to life by our talented young performers and original choreography. The live band will once again include a large number of student musicians alongside members of staff.
