The Crucible by Arthur Miller at The Old Vic

The Crucible at The Old Vic TheatreThe Crucible tells the story of one man’s fight to save his identity in a repressive Puritan community where intolerence collides with lust and superstition, fuelling widespread hysteria with tragic results.

Yael Farber directs a visceral re-imagining of Arthur Miller’s modern American masterpiece about the Salem witch trials, which draws parallels with his experience of McCarthy’s anti-communist investigations in the 1950s.

Richard Armitage will play the role of John Proctor, together with Samantha Colley as Abigail Williams and Anna Madeley as Elizabeth Proctor. Directed by Yaël Farber and designed by Soutra Gilmour.

Richard Armitage is well known for his screen roles in the Hobbit trilogy, and Captain America: The First Avenger, and will star in the forthcoming film Into the Storm. His stage credits include The Duchess of Malfi, the RSC’s Macbeth, and Hamlet with the Birmingham Rep.

Samantha Colley will make her professional stage debut playing Abigail Williams. Anna Madeley returns to the West End to play Elizabeth Proctor after recently starring Private Lives. They will be joined by Sarah Niles, Rebecca Saire and Zara White.
