Canadian Alexander McMorran (Julius Caesar (Chelsea Theatre), Pacific Overtures (Union Theatre), Sweeney Todd (Jericho Arts Centre)) will be leading the cast of Neil Bartlett’s A Christmas Carol in the role of Scrooge with his ‘chameleon-like transformations’ and ‘thrilling fearlessness’.
He will be joined by an ensemble including Liam Mansfield (A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Almeida Theatre/UK Tour), A Provincial Life (National Theatre Wales), The 24 Hour Plays (Old Vic Theatre/Old Vic New Voices)) and Cat Gerrard (Cycles of the Southern Wild (TailSpin, Blue Elephant Theatre), The Fantasist (Theatre Témoin, UK and Ireland Tour, Edfringe 2012, 2013), Romeo and Juliet (Sheringham Little Theatre).
These exciting six actors will use Charles Dickens’ extraordinary original words in this bold theatrical reimagining of the much-‐loved Christmas story. Here, the ensemble play all the roles -‐ singing, creating sound effects and new stage configurations through their invigorating physicality. Dickens’ quintessential story of ghosts, greed and goodwill is given a totally new slant in this chilling, contemporary, fresh production of love, compassion and forgiveness.
Director, Gus Miller (The Picture of John Gray) says ‘A Christmas Carol is one of our best-‐loved stories for good reason. It’s vivid, joyous, moving and at times it’s downright scary. Its impact is so powerful that it’s responsible for much of today’s Christmas tradition. With an inventive company of actors we’re exploring how we can bring the frosty London of Victorian times to life on stage and how we can make Scrooge’s story of redemption speak directly to today’s unequal and isolating world.’
