A CHRISTMAS MEMORY by Charles Dance and Dame Diana Rigg

A Christmas MemoryLIFT presents a reading of Truman Capote’s joyous and poignant A CHRISTMAS MEMORY, performed by Charles Dance and Dame Diana Rigg on 10th December 2014 at 7.30pm in support of LIFT, at King’s College Chapel in the heart of King’s College London.

Truman Capote’s A Christmas Memory is the tender recollection of a short and innocent period in the life of the seven year old narrator and his older distant cousin and best friend in 1930s America. As Christmas approaches they embark on a ritual involving friendship, cake, country life and the joy of giving. A ritual soon to be lived only in memory. LIFT presents an intimate festive reading of this evocative story in the candlelit glory of the newly restored King’s College Chapel.

On 10th December the story will be told by, the story will be told by multi award-winning actress Dame Diana Rigg and Screen Actors Guild award winner and BAFTA and Emmy nominee Charles Dance (Game of Thrones, The Imitation Game)

A reading of the story by LIFT Patrons Mark Rylance and Juliet Stevenson on 11th December has already sold out. Mark Rylance Said: “How would Santa know where London is if we didn’t have LIFT? LIFT keeps English theatre artists and audiences connected to the world. The more we support LIFT the more wonderful theatre artists they can invite to London.”

Capote’s story was first published in 1956 and is an prevailing gift from a literary powerhouse. It will staged with a characteristic LIFT twist courtesy of immersive theatre company Look Left, Look Right and cellist Harry Napier.

Each performer has generously given their time and all proceeds will support LIFT and its work in bringing ground-breaking international artists and theatre to London. Produced with LIFT’s Artistic Associate David Binder

LIFT’s Artistic Associate the Broadway producer David Binder (Of Mice and Men, Hedwig and The Angry Inch) has produced A Christmas Memory over several Christmases in New York with a range of actors taking part, including Matthew Broderick, Nathan lane, Madeline Kahn, Irene Worth, Stockard Channing, Terrance McNally and Kevin Spacey – with all proceeds going to charity.

Look Left Look Right is an award winning site-specific theatre company making vivid, dynamic, and interactive theatre inspired by and about the contemporary world. In LIFT in 2012 they presented their award winning You Once Said Yes. The company has won 3 Fringe firsts and a Total Theatre Award.
