City Academy Musical Theatre Company presents The Witches of Eastwick

Witches of EastwickThe bewitching modern-day musical, The Witches of Eastwick is arriving at Riverside Studios for two days only, courtesy of City Academy Musical Theatre Company.

This musical is the wickedly comical tale of three women fed up with their mundane lives and hungry for a man. Their desires are answered by the arrival of the devilish Darryl Van Home, who seduces all three women, unlocks their true power and sparks controversy in the town of Eastwick. As their witchcraft becomes darker and out of control, the women realise their error and look to cast Darryl out of their lives…

This City Academy production is directed by Pippa O’Brien and choreographed by Rebecca Wicking. The show will play four performances in total, with two alternating casts.

Based on the 1984 novel of the same name by John Updike and the 1987 Warner Brothers motion picture, The Witches of Eastwick was adapted for theatre by John Dempsey (book and lyrics) and Dana P. Rowe (music) in 2000.

The Olivier nominated show debuted at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in June, 2000, directed by Eric Schaeffer and produced by Cameron Mackintosh. Ian McShane starred in the lead role of Darryl Van Horne with Maria Friedman, Joanna Riding and Lucie Arnaz as the three witches. Marti Pellow later reprised the role of the Devil in the UK tour in 2008.

Rebecca Wicking said “The Witches of Eastwick is a sharp, sexy and spellbinding musical with a magical score. The talented City Academy Musical Theatre Company is an amateur group with an unrivalled passion and commitment to what they do, and we’ve a sensational production in store.”
