Big Broad Productions and the Belgrade Theatre Coventry present the premiere of CRUSH
4-19 SEPTEMBER 2015 AT THE BELGRADE THEATRE COVENTRY
THEN AT THEATRE ROYAL BRIGHTON & RICHMOND THEATRE LONDON
STAR CASTING TO BE ANNOUNCED
CRUSH, a brand new musical comedy, will premiere at the Belgrade Theatre Coventry playing from Friday 4th to Saturday 19th September 2015.
CRUSH will then play Theatre Royal Brighton (22nd-26th September) and Richmond Theatre (29th September-3rd October).
“This is an S.O.S. message. Please Save Our School from imminent catastrophe.”
CRUSH is set in a 1960s boarding school with a proud tradition of free expression – but when a deeply conservative new Headmistress imposes sweeping reforms, replacing the school motto ‘Do what you do well’ with ‘Learn or depart’, it’s time for the Upper Sixth to follow in the footsteps of their Suffragette founder and prove that rebel spirits can’t be crushed.
And star pupil Susan Smart has to learn that she won’t find true love until she’s brave enough to stand up and be counted…
This battle for the soul of the school gives a new twist to Mallory Towers and The Girl’s Own Annual, and invites young hearts of all ages to run free in a fight to the finish – with hockey sticks to the fore, toe-tapping tunes, witty lyrics and soaring ballads.
CRUSH is presented by Big Broad Productions, in co-production with the Belgrade Theatre Coventry.
CRUSH is written by Maureen Chadwick (creator and writer of hit TV dramas Waterloo Road, Footballers’ Wives, over 40 episodes of Coronation Street, and stage musicals The Realness, Bad Girls The Musical and Joséphine), with music and lyrics by Kath Gotts (Bad Girls The Musical and The Realness), and directed by Anna Linstrum (High Society, The Sound of Music and Spend, Spend, Spend). She was one of the co-founders and creative directors of Shed Productions.
Kath Gotts has written incidental music and songs for television and theatre, notably for Bad Girls, the television series, as well as music and lyrics for Bad Girls The Musical on stage, for which she was also lead producer. Her latest project is The Realness, which premiered at the Hackney Downs Studio in London in November 2014.
