Ovalhouse and Move To Stand in association with LittleMighty present: Fat Man By Martin Bonger
How y’all doing? Y’all know me, I’m Orpheus…
Orpheus is doing stand up for the gods; alone on stage with nothing but his memories and his wit, Orpheus attempts to exorcise the demons of his past by telling and re-telling the story of finding love, losing love and fighting for it. As the audience are transformed into the gods of legend, will Orpheus ever escape his past?
Imagine that you’re as powerful as gods. I know y’all are gods. But imagine you’re a god for the first time…
Fat Man is a sharp new take on a classic Greek myth; this is a bitterly funny story of love, loss and eating your way out of grief. Brought to you by the award-winning Move to Stand this is a black comedy that bridges the everyday with the celestial. Move to Stand create contemporary devised stories that mix the everyday with the epic. Led by Artistic Director Martin Bonger, who has also worked on NIE’s North North North and The Plasticine Men’s Keepers.
Fat Man is directed by Alex Swift whose previous work includes the incredibly successful Mess by Caroline Horton. Set in our Upstairs Theatre Fat Man is set to be an intimate and moving experience, with music specially composed by Philippe Nash providing a haunting backdrop to Orpheus’s trials both through the underworld and the real world. This is a piece about the strengths and weaknesses of the human condition and how we face our own personal gods and monsters; you don’t have to know about Orpheus and Eurydice to enjoy and understand this show, you just have to have lived.
