Idina Menzel concert and Back To The Musicals series

Idina Menzel

Six years ago, Broadway star Idina Menzel came to London to reprise her Tony Award-winning role as ‘Elphaba’ in the new West End production of Wicked. During her time at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, Menzel more than won over the audiences with her performance and earned herself a Whatsonstage.com Award for ‘Best Actress in a Musical’ – London declared their love for her, and she clearly reciprocates as she is once again soon to return to our shores for a series of concert dates. It is a … [Read more...]

Giggin 4 Good

At the core of every musical theatre fan lies a deep-rooted love of music. I certainly have it. My CD collection is vast and richly variant and I simply couldn’t imagine a life without music in it. I can’t say that I’m overly enthusiastic about the current uninspired offerings from the pop chart, but whatever my mood, I can always find solace in the world of musical theatre. Of course, there’s nothing quite like the experience of live performance, which is why I try to make it into the West End … [Read more...]

Jest End comes to the Leicester Square Theatre

Jestend 2012

Musicals are a great source of entertainment, with even the most serious-minded of them providing a little light relief to combat the weightiness of the piece – think the Thernadiers in Les Miserables. Sometimes though, musical theatre can entertain in a way it never intended when it suddenly finds itself the butt of the joke. At most cabarets, there’ll be one performer poking fun at the industry with the almost obligatory satirical song, but Jest End is fast gaining a reputation as the hot … [Read more...]

Why life isn’t really like a musical

Ramin Karimloo Ssierra Boggess

It’s funny how the mind works sometimes. Yesterday, it decided to dip into my memory safe hold and pull out a blog I’d written almost a year ago; I could almost see it inside my head as a physical presence, waving excitedly and calling out, “Coo-ee! Remember me?” The blog was Why Can’t Life Be More Like A Musical? and was a light-hearted lamenting of how wonderful the World would be if we were all spontaneously breaking into song throughout the day. One part of it read: “In a musical, … [Read more...]

Legally Blonde at New Wimbledon Theatre

Legally Blonde New Wimbledon Theatre

The West End is a place of perpetual progression, with shows moving in and out of town in an ever-changing cycle of creative vision. While the closure of one show to make room for another can be devastating to its die-hard fan base, most will agree that it is a necessary evil to keep the theatre scene from becoming tired and stale. Nonetheless, this fact offers little comfort to the fans who are mourning the loss of a favoured production. Everyone has a favourite show in town, the one they … [Read more...]
