On Sunday 12th May 2019 at London’s Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith, there will be two concerts of The Best of… Rock Musicals for the benefit of The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust. It will be the 20th Anniversary production from the same team who for the last 19 years have presented The Night of 1000 Voices at the Royal Albert Hall and elsewhere.

Hosted by Sir Tim Rice, The Best of… Rock Musicals will feature New York’s Adam Pascal (Rent); Europe’s Adrianna Hicks (The Color Purple), Kristina Love (Tina) and David Michael Johnson (Jesus Christ Superstar); and London’s Kerry Ellis (Wicked) together with a host of Broadway and West End talent, the West End Chorus, the City of London Philharmonic AllStars and some very special surprise guests.

Amongst many others, The Best of… Rock Musicals will include songs from Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, Evita, Chess, Aida, Miss Saigon, RENT, Tommy, We Will Rock You, Spring Awakening, The Rocky Horror Show, Next To Normal, The Little Shop of Horrors, Dear Evan Hansen, Wicked and The Lion King.

From Debbie Kurup:
Q: You’ve been involved with previous iterations of these concert events before, how did you first get involved?
Debbie: I have participated in many of these large scale charity concerts produced and directed by Hugh Wooldridge. They are always a joy to do and knowing you are collectively doing something great for an important charity is always satisfying.

Q: What can audiences expect from this year’s concert, the 20th-anniversary production?
Debbie: The audiences can expect a Rock Musical extravaganza! Blistering songs and an exceptional line up of talented singers and musicians to deliver them!

Q: How involved are you with choosing the numbers you perform?
Debbie: Hugh always puts forward song suggestions and because he knows his cast so well they usually always fit! But yes in the past I have absolutely put forward my own ideas too. I’m very happy to be singing these particular songs!

Q: What’s your favourite thing about doing these types of concerts?
Debbie: I love watching the incredible array of talent assembling to put on an incredible show. It’s always great to see familiar faces but meeting new friends on these gigs is lovely. The band call (sitz-probe) which we normally do on the Saturday before the gig is always epic What would you say to anyone thinking of coming to see Best of… Rock Musicals? Prepare to Rock your socks off!
