RSC Shakespeare on Screen film season at the Barbican January 2016

The Royal Shakespeare Company and the Barbican will be screening a series of past productions for the Shakespeare on Screen season in January 2016.

Created by the RSC, Shakespeare on Screen is a special festival that will show ‘captivating, rare and never-before-screened productions from 50 years of Shakespeare in performance’. The film season will present nine titles which have been selected from the archive of RSC work on stage or rec-conceived film and television, ranging from a rarely seen partial recording of Peter Hall’s 1959 staging of A Midsummer Night’s Dream to David Tennant’s acclaimed performance in the title role of Hamlet in 2008.

Shakespeare on Screen will run alongside the RSC’s King and Country plays at the Barbican Cinema from 9th to 31st January 2016, in the year that marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.
