The Biograph Girl at Watermans Theatre Brentford

The Biograph Girl University of West LondonThe Biograph Girl by graduates from the London College of Music/University of West London.

Set at the birth of silent movies, The Biograph Girl tells the true story of the birth of the ‘flickers’ through the eyes of movie stars Mary Pickford and Lillian Gish, epic film maker D. W. Griffith and influential studio boss Adolph Zukor as well as Mack Sennett.

The sweeping story of the show begins on the New York rooftop film studios in 1912, and progresses through the move to the sunnier climes of Hollywood, the making of the pioneering film “Birth of a Nation”, Mary Pickford’s advances up the career ladder, Griffith’s artistic achievements and financial disasters, the forming of the United Artistes partnership and finally and the complete overhaul in the industry with the birth of sound in 1927.

The delicious score of the show features many up-tempo Hollywood showbiz numbers, balanced beautifully with delicate and wistful ballads.
