Written by Billie Collins, Spiders is at the Tristan Bates Theatre from 13th-18th August 2018. Longlisted for the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting in 2015, Spiders is a witty, touching piece of new writing that asks: is your suffering still valid when another’s is greater?
Spiders debuted at the Corpus Christi Playroom in 2017 to rave reviews:
‘the comic and grotesque lies in the very essence of the play’s triumph’ (Varsity, ★★★★★)
‘consistently witty and by turns touching and dark’ (TCS, ★★★★★)
Harry is homeless, reckless, and overly invested in the documentaries of David Attenborough. Mia has everything he doesn’t, yet still feels like she’s suffocating.
The two of them have been squatting together for a few weeks, but when ‘real life’ isn’t quite what Mia expected, and Harry finds that being a ‘good person’ isn’t always easy, things start to get fractious.
Harry and Mia navigate growing up, loving and violence. Together they learn to become invisible in a world that wants them to be seen.
Billie Collins is a playwright, poet, and screenwriter from the North West. She has been selected as a member of the Royal Exchange Theatre’s Young Writers’ Programme, the National Youth Theatre, and, in 2016, she won the Cuckoo Young Writers’ Award (Northern Writers’ Awards, New Writing North.)
