The Shakespeareans: Portraits in Paint and Words

The Shakespeareans Exhibition
Emma Fielding by Janet Lance Hughes

The Shakespeareans: Portraits in Paint and Words exciting exhibition of new portraits of Shakespearean actors in the heart of theatreland. Private View on Friday 12th August 2016 from 8pm. Writer and art historian Laura-Jane Foley has collaborated with artist and designer Janet Lance Hughes to produce an unusual exhibition of portraits at The Club at the Ivy. ‘The Shakespeareans’ is a series of portraits of well-known actors who have depicted Shakespeare characters on stage. In an exciting creative collaboration between writer and artist, Laura-Jane and Janet invited leading actors to sit for them both so there exists a written portrait and a visual portrait. Text and image will be displayed side by side in this bold new exhibition so that the viewer obtains a fuller sense of the sitter than is usually obtained through word or image alone. Sitters include Joss Ackland, Christopher Biggins, Emma Fielding, Jonathan Pryce, Zoe Wanamaker and Greg Wise.

The exhibition runs from Friday 12 August to Friday 19 August 2016.
