Two West End shows cancelled due to power cut today

Les Miserables at the Queen's Theatre London

Today’s matinee performances of Les Miserables at the Queen’ s Theatre and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at the Gielgud Theatre were cancelled after a power cut in Shaftesbury Avenue in London’s West End.

More than 1,000 people were evacuated on to the streets, including cast and theatregoers from the two shows.

The power cut was caused due to a transformer, which provides power to both theatres, overheating.

LES MISERABLES Tweeted  “The show is back on tonight, and we haven’t burnt much energy so we are gonna be on fire”

A spokesman for UK Power Network said that power was disrupted just before 3.00pm.  “UK Power Network rerouted power supplies to all but one customer within a couple of minutes and the final supply was restored as quickly as possible by 3.51pm. We apologise to customers including theatregoers for the inconvenience we caused.

Theatregoers in the audience of either cancelled show should contact the point of sale of their ticket(s).
