War of the Worlds to open in West End in 2016

Jeff Wayne’s musical version of The War of the Worlds is coming to the West End next year.

It was announced today that the show will make its West End debut at the Dominion Theatre for a limited run from Monday 8th February to 9th April 2016, with opening night gala performance set for Wednesday 17th February 2016.

The new Bill Kenwright production features the iconic score by Jeff Wayne, played live and conducted on stage by Wayne. Liam Neeson is set to feature again in a 3D holography performance as The Journalist, and audiences can also expect to see new music, star cast, and a full supporting company of performers in addition to video walls, the iconic Martian Fighting Machine and special effects.

The War of the Worlds is a science fiction thriller detailing an alien invasion of Earth by ruthless Martians, originally published as a novel by H. G. Wells in 1898.

Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds is an award-winning musical re-telling of the original novel of the same name by H. G. Wells. It was released as a concept album in 1978 and re-imagined in 2012 ahead of a live tour. The stage show has toured extensively, with a final ‘farewell’ arena tour in 2014 starring Brian McFadden, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Jason Donovan, Shayne Ward and Joseph Whelan, that came to an end at Amsterdam Heineken Music Hall on 16th December 2014.

Casting is yet to be announced for the West End production of The War of the Worlds at the Dominion Theatre.
