Professional provocateur Ursula Martinez is back at Soho Theatre. Olivier Award-winning performance provocateur Ursula Martinez returns to Soho Theatre with her one-woman show, Free Admission, which celebrates the quirks and inconsistencies of being human.
‘There are laughs throughout, but there are also chills… Free Admission cements her reputation as someone who is prepared to bare all in every sense.’ ★★★★ Evening Standard
Following the success of My Stories, Your Emails (Soho Theatre, February 2012), Martinez picks up her investigation of confession, miscommunication, sex, identity and social media in a new, brutally sincere show. Sharing her most personal stories and acts of self-revelation, Martinez seeks to illuminate those corners of society rarely tackled with such directness and vulnerability.
‘A charmingly transgressive solo performer.’ ★★★★ The Times
Free Admission shares the comical style of Martinez’ previous work and uses it to playfully ridicule and expose the absurdities of contemporary living, from racism to religion, selfies, gender stereotypes and our failing healthcare system. With nudity, political incorrectness, positive self-deprecation and a reinvention of the fourth wall, Martinez is back on her dirty soapbox in this honest, bittersweet look at growing up and getting on.
In Martinez’ own words, Free Admission is “…a funny, experimental, unique, feminist, cheeky, brave, sexy, political, piss-taking, serious piece of theatre performance.” DIVA magazine, July 2015
