Not a theatre related story as such, but when Dame Judi Dench gives her support to a charity then it is worth reporting.

The Trustees of Greyhounds in Need are proud and delighted to announce that Dame Judi Dench CH DBE FRSA has agreed to become a Patron of the charity, in succession to the late Alexandra Bastedo

Greyhounds in Need (GIN) is a charity devoted to the rescue and rehoming of greyhounds. Its principal activity lies in Spain, where it is the only UK based charity working full time to help the native strain of greyhounds, called Galgos, which are used for hunting and coursing in rural areas. These dogs are severely maltreated in their working lives and routinely killed or abandoned after their first hunting season. GIN has been instrumental in the successful rescue and rehoming of some thousands of these abused dogs.

The charity welcomes Dame Judi’s wish to help them in their vital work and look forward to a long and fruitful association in spreading the word about this desperate welfare situation.
