Girl From Nowhere at Theatre503If you hear this from anyone else, they’ll tell it wrong.

America, 1969. Vietnam. Apollo 11. Woodstock. The country may be bursting with the vibes of peace, love and rock ‘n’ roll but Jeannie Hogan is back home in Coyote Creek, deepest Texas, disgraced after a disastrous rock tour. Subjected once again to the small-town business of a home she’s outgrown, Jeannie stews in her teenage bedroom, desperate to escape.

But there’s something she has to do first.

A tape recorder whirrs as Jeannie embarks on a volatile and furious account of the lovers, the lies and the music that built her up and subsequently knocked her down. This brave new one-woman play seizes the cult of celebrity and stares straight at the ugliness of ambition, allowing us an extraordinarily intimate glimpse behind closed doors.

Victoria Rigby was a member of the Lyric Hammersmith Young Writers’ Programme 2013, and was shortlisted for the Lyric’s Emerging Artists program for ‘Girl From Nowhere’. She graduated from Cambridge with a double First in English. Recently, she has worked with Golden Lane Films on ‘Return‘ (Lauren Evans, Nina Gold Casting). Film includes a First World War feature film ‘Tell Them of Us‘ (in production), in which she stars as Grace Crowder. She has previously worked with director Niall Wilson in ‘Doubt’ as Sister James.

Niall Wilson has previously worked at theatre503 as Assistant Director to David Aula on Fallout Theatre’s ‘Meat’. Niall is a graduate of the Royal Court Young Writer’s Programme.
