School of Rock The Musical to open at London Palladium Autumn 2016

December 7, 2015 Last updated: April 23, 2022 6:06 pm By Neil Cheesman

School of Rock BroadwayAndrew Lloyd Webber has announced that following its triumphant Broadway opening last night at the Winter Garden Theatre, the West End production of School of Rock – The Musical will open at the London Palladium in Autumn 2016. Dates for the West End run will be confirmed in the New Year with details of when the production will go on sale.

Andrew Lloyd Webber said: “I am thrilled to announce that we are confirming a West End production of School of Rock The Musical. We have had such a great time in the US staging the world premiere and now that we have opened on Broadway, I am delighted to be focussing on the next chapter in the show’s journey.”

As well as the London production, Lloyd Webber also announces that a National Company of School of Rock – The Musical will launch a US Tour in the Autumn of 2017, playing coast-to-coast engagements across America.

Based on the smash hit 2003 film of the same title, School of Rock features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater and a book by Julian Fellowes. School of Rock – The Musical is directed by Laurence Connor with choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter, set and costume designs by Anna Louizos, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Mick Potter, music supervision by Ethan Popp and hair design by Josh Marquette.

Down-on-his-luck wannabe rock star Dewey Finn poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school to make ends meet. When he discovers his students’ musical talents, he enlists his fifth-graders to form a rock group and conquer the Battle of the Bands.

Produced by Paramount Pictures, the 2003 film was directed by Richard Linklater and starred Jack Black in a career-defining performance and went on to gross more than $130 million worldwide.

School of Rock – The Musical is produced on Broadway by Andrew Lloyd Webber for The Really Useful Group, Warner Music Group & Access Industries, The Shubert Organization and The Nederlander Organization. Nina Lannan and Madeleine Lloyd Webber serve as Executive Producers.
