STAGE ENTERTAINMENT and GHOSTLIGHT RECORDS announce the release of the second single “The Hunter” featuring Kobna Holdbrook-Smith who plays Ike Turner on the upcoming TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL Original London Cast Recording available to stream and download. The full album is now available for pre-order and is scheduled to be released for digital download and streaming on Friday, March 29. A physical CD is planned for release later this spring. Customers who pre-order the digital album will immediately receive a download of “The Hunter” along with the first single “River Deep – Mountain High.”

TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL’s Arrangements, Additional Music and Musical Supervisor, Nicholas Skilbeck says, “The Hunter was originally recorded by Ike and Tina Turner at the end of the 1960s and saw Tina’s first R&B Vocal Performance Grammy nomination. Ike Turner was a music revolutionary, considered by some, to be the father of rock n roll. In TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL we repositioned the song to be performed by Ike Turner (Kobna Holdbrook-Smith) and The Kings of Rhythm live at Club Manhattan in St. Louis in the 1950s, show-casing Ike’s musical genius and his role in creating the sound of tomorrow. When recording, the idea was to give this song a vintage quality but as though it had never been heard before, the listener is thrust back in time, into the raw energy of an early rock and roll gig, as if witnesses at the birth of the music revolution. Like our “River Deep-Mountain High” recording, it’s very much about feeling you are in the room with the music, Kobna, Adrienne, the band and having that visceral connection to it.”

The album was recorded in February 2019 at Angel Studios and produced by Nicholas Skilbeck and Ghostlight Records founder, Kurt Deutsch, and co-produced by Tom Kelly.

Directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL is choreographed by Anthony van Laast, with set and costume designs by Mark Thompson, musical supervision by Nicholas Skilbeck, lighting by Bruno Poet, sound by Nevin Steinberg, projection design by Jeff Sugg and orchestrations by Ethan Popp.

The critically acclaimed production received its world premiere in April 2018 in London and subsequently has broken all Box Office records at the Aldwych Theatre, where it is now booking to December 2019. Adrienne Warren, who plays Tina Turner in the show in the West End, will recreate her celebrated performance on Broadway in Autumn 2019.

From humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her transformation into the global Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Tina Turner didn’t just break the rules, she rewrote them. This new stage musical, presented in association with Tina Turner herself, reveals the untold story of a woman who dared to defy the bounds of her age, gender and race. The German premiere of TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL began performances earlier this month at the Stage Operettenhaus in Hamburg.
