Miss Saigon to open on Broadway in 2017 with Eva Noblezada and Jon Jon Briones

Cameron Mackintosh’s Miss Saigon is set to return to Broadway in spring 2017, with Eva Noblezada and Jon Briones to reprise their roles from the West End production.

Following months of rumours it was confirmed today, Thursday 19th November, that Miss Saigon will play a limited Broadway season in spring 2017 ahead of a North American Tour in 2018. Exact dates and venue are yet to be announced, but the National Tour is due to open in Providence, Rhode Island and will visit over 50 US cities.

The Broadway production will star Eva Noblezada as Kim and Jon Jon Briones as The Engineer, who are both still appearing in the West End production at the Prince Edward Theatre.

MISS SAIGON tells the tragic tale of young bar girl Kim, orphaned by war, who falls in love with an American GI called Chris – but their lives are torn apart by the fall of Saigon.

The Boublil and Schönberg musical originally premiered at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 1989, starring Lea Salonga (Kim), Simon Bowman (Chris) and Jonathan Pryce (The Engineer). It ran in the West End for ten years and went on to become one of the most successful shows in the history of musical theatre. It opened on Broadway in 1991, and to date, it has been performed in 28 countries, over 300 cities in 15 different languages, has won over 40 awards including 2 Olivier Awards, 3 Tony Awards, and 4 Drama Desk Awards and been seen by over 35 million people worldwide.

The musical was revived in 2014, its 25th anniversary year. Cameron Mackintosh’s new production opened at the Prince Edward Theatre on 21st May 2014 with newcomer Eva Noblezada as Kim, Alistair Brammer as Chris, Jon Briones as The Engineer, Hugh Maynard as John, Tamsin Carroll as Ellen, Kwang Ho-Hong as Thuy and Rachelle Ann Go as Gigi. The show is now in the final months of its London run, which comes to an end in 14 weeks on Saturday 27th February 2016. Original cast members Eva Noblezada, Jon Briones and Hugh Maynard continue to play their roles in the London production, which currently stars Chris Peluso as Chris, Siobhan Dillon as Ellen, Sangwoong Jo as Thuy and Natalie Mendoza as Gigi. Marsha Songcome will take over the role of Gigi from 15th December 2015.

The cast also includes Michael Carolan; Richard Carson; Natalie Chua; Callum Evans; Maria Graciano; Nathan Graham; Simon Hardwick; Kurt Kansley; Sooha Kim; Kittiphun Kittipakapom; Aaron Lee Lambert; David Kar-Hing Lee; Mitch Leow; Ethan Le Phong; Ela Lisondra; Michael Macalintal; Tanya Manalang; Christian Rey Marbella; Liam Marcellino; Kanako Nakano; Thao Therese Nguyen; Saori Oda; Claire Parrish; Kiel Payton; Katherine Picar; Ariel Reonal; Jon Reynolds; Romeo Salazar; Eloisa Amalia Tan; Gavin Tsang; Thao Vilayvong; Amadeus Williams; Gerald Zarcilla and Yuval Zoref. Denise Baaij will join the company from 14 December.

Miss Saigon has music by Claude-Michel Schönberg with lyrics by Richard Maltby Jnr and Alain Boublil, adapted from original French lyrics by Alain Boublil with additional lyrics by Michael Mahler. The new production is directed by Laurence Connor with musical staging by Bob Avian and additional choreography by Geoffrey Garratt, production design by Totie Driver and Matt Kinley based on an original concept by Adrian Vaux, costume design by Andreane Neofitou, lighting design by Bruno Poet, sound design by Mick Potter and orchestrations by William David Brohn. Musical supervision is by Stephen Brooker and John Rigby. Musical direction is by Adam Rowe.
